Badminton Carnival
Graphic design
Overview
The Badminton Carnival is a Melbourne-based community sports event designed to bring together players of all skill levels in a vibrant, festival-like atmosphere. The brief called for a complete creative ecosystem, a visual identity that felt energetic and accessible, with the flexibility to stretch across digital, print, and physical touchpoints. The central challenge was balancing the fast-paced, competitive spirit of badminton with a warm, welcoming tone that would attract casual players alongside seasoned competitors. The result is a system that leads with bold type, a sharp colour palette, and a graphic language rooted in motion and sport.
Brief & Creative Direction
The process began with a thorough discovery phase, workshopping the event's values, audience, and ambitions. From there, a creative brief was drafted that anchored the visual direction: high-contrast, kinetic, and unapologetically sporty. Mood boards, typographic studies, and colour explorations led to a core palette of deep court green and electric lime, nodding to the physicality of the game without leaning into cliché. This phase established the visual language that would carry across every subsequent touchpoint, a consistent thread tying together the on-court experience with the broader event presence.
Photo Editing & Visuals
A collection of event and promotional photography was retouched and edited to sit cohesively within the brand. Colour grading was applied to unify tones across a range of lighting conditions, pulling images into the brand's green-and-lime world. Motion blur effects, graphic overlays, and typographic lockups were added in post to create a suite of polished assets ready for deployment. The edited photography became the foundation for every downstream deliverable, ensuring that even when formats varied, the imagery felt like it belonged to the same event.
Deliverables
The final suite of deliverables covered every channel the event required, from large-format print through to social-ready templates and branded merchandise. Each piece was designed to feel specific to its context while remaining unmistakably part of the same family. Social Templates / A1 Poster / A 4 Poster / Style guide and Merchandising.
